Uncle is a 2018 Indian Malayalam-language drama thriller film directed by Girish Damodar and produced by Joy Mathew and Sajai Sebastian under the banner of SJ Films. The plot revolves around Shruthi, a student at an Ooty college, who is forced to return home to Kozhikode due to dangerous strikes in the area. Coincidentally, she meets Krishnakumar (KK), her father’s family friend, who offers her a ride back home. During the 6-hour drive, KK (whom Shruthi affectionately calls “Uncle”) and Shruthi listen to music, share stories, and admire the scenery. However, KK’s suspicious calls and interactions with mysterious individuals raise concerns about Shruthi’s safety. Her father worries, fearing he doesn’t know KK as well as he thought. But her mother reassures him, pointing out that both Shruthi and KK call home regularly and sound happy over the phone.
As the journey progresses, KK’s actions become more enigmatic. He leaves Shruthi’s friend Sam behind after filling up his car, leading to further worry. However, KK’s true intentions are revealed when he shows Shruthi a pouch of something resembling crack cocaine, which he found in Sam’s bag. It turns out to be rare honey, a gift from Shruthi’s mother. KK gains Shruthi’s trust, and they share a special moment at a lake, only to be caught taking selfies together by villagers who report them to the police. The film explores themes of trust, family bonds, and unexpected connections.
